Jurors:
Sherry Hensley
Sherry Hensley is a retired art educator residing in East Tennessee. She was a K-12 art instructor
for 25 years in the public school system and has taught art in Loudon County, Kingsport City,
Greeneville, and Greene County. Sherry received her Bachelor of Science degree from East
Tennessee State University with area concentrations in art education and studio arts. As a current
board member of the Greeneville Arts Council, Sherry organizes and teaches summer art camps
for elementary age students on the campus of Tusculum University. She was employed by the
Hands On! Museum in Johnson City as education director, working closely with teachers
conducting workshops and developing outreach programs for the classroom. Sherry received her
Master of Arts degree while employed at the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga,
where she was Education Curator. As a high school art instructor in Greene County, Sherry
earned her EdS degree from Lincoln Memorial University. She enjoys traveling, photography,
and working in her studio with stain glass art.
Dr. Lauren Stetz
Dr. Lauren Stetz has worked with students from Pre-K to the university level in public and
private schools, in both urban and suburban environments, in Pennsylvania, Northern Virginia,
and Washington, D.C. Dr. Stetz received her bachelor’s degree in art education from Penn State
University and holds a master’s degree in art history from George Mason University. Dr. Stetz
received her Ph.D. in Art Education with a minor in Women's, Gender, and at Penn State
University. Her global research uses data visualization to develop culturally responsive pedagogy
and harnesses the power of art activism for healing, community building, and societal change.
She was the recipient of the 2023 Elliot Eisner Doctoral Dissertation Award and 2024 Award for
Outstanding Research in New Media and Technology from the National Art Education
Association (NAEA). Stetz currently serves as the chair of the Data Visualization Working
Group (NAEA).
